I am a semi abstract painter, living and working on the North Coast of Cornwall.
After an art foundation course in Newport, I went on to study film and photography. Then I moved to London and worked in advertising and editorial photography, producing shoots for magazines, books and advertising before working in Commercials.
Now I work in oil paint on wooden board .and my practise starts with small story-board sketches, these are influenced by how I see the everyday. Working out the composition and pallet before setting up the still life, just as a food stylist and photographer would arrange a shoot, selecting objects from my kitchen and home. This enables me to create not just from life but also from memory, using my perspective and not just what I see in front of me.
My inspiration comes from simple objects, the colours, textures and marks revealing their past and present, especially those with a haptic quality. I combine these with the colours of the ocean, landscape and forms, that surround me where I live.
I find the most simple things are often the most difficult.
