Damian lives and works in the South East of England. His paintings look to capture moments of transition and flux, residual forms that appear exposed to change and chance.
His technique for painting is unconventional and involves layers of paint being impressed upon one another, each layer responding to the last. Shapes and patterns can accumulate or recede as the painting develops, creating a rich strata of texture and colour.
The end result becomes more geological than gestural and can also create a sense of luminosity, the subtlety of the mark-making inviting the viewer to take a closer look at these culminations of light, colour and texture.
Since graduating from art college in Exeter, Damian’s career as both a graphic designer and artist has enabled him to draw on the two practices to influence his use of composition and form within his art.
